I received this kit as a gift along with the Herb Garden Kit I blogged about previously. You can read that review here: MakersKit Herb Garden Kit. This kit contains the following:
- 4 - Half Pint Glass Mason Jars
- Organic Potting Soil and Pebbles
- Organic Crushed White Volcanic Rock (Perlite)
- 4 Seed Packets (Savory, Chervil, Dill, Arugula)
Labels of various kinds are also included. Having previously watched the instructional video, I was able to easily replicate the process with this kit. I soaked the seeds overnight this time.
Unfortunately, I did not use the mason jar for my arugula seeds because I wanted to start them in a manner that would be easier to transfer the seedlings to my raised bed outside. I did, however, use the extra jar to start some sweet marjoram seeds and it worked perfectly.
Day 1 - April 2, 2016 - Soaked the seeds in lukewarm water inside the jars overnight.
Day 2 - April 3, 2016 - Placed the soaked seeds on a paper towel and put back in the jar. Closed the lid and let them sit.
Day 6 - April 7, 2016 - Completed the kits and put the seeds inside.
Day 7 - April 8
Each day I check the water levels by looking at the perlite and if there is no water I add some. I keep them in a warm place out of direct sunlight so they don't burn or dry out.
Day 10 - April 11
I have been cooped up in the house and after such a great success with my last kit, I decided to use some of the seeds to try different seed-starting methods. As mentioned, I did not start the arugula seeds in the jar but below you can see that the seeds MakersKit sent are viable.
